His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Chairman of Dubai Airports, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, said that global airports have returned to full strength and regained the momentum of growth lost in most parts of the world, as the pace of construction of new airports and the expansion and upgrading of existing facilities has accelerated to ensure that future demand for airports as well as the needs and expectations of passengers are met.
On the sidelines of the opening of the twenty-second edition of the Airport Show, His Highness added that the region's airports are looking forward to maintaining their position as the best global hubs and are working to invest in the latest technologies and concepts, such as biometrics, the Internet of Things and artificial intelligence, in order to provide an airport experience that exceeds the expectations of its customers, makes aviation sustainable, and keeps it at the forefront of competition.
His Highness inaugurated the annual Airport Show, the largest this year in the airport industry, which will be held at the Dubai World Trade Centre from 9 to 11 May 2023, where he toured the exhibitors' pavilions and was briefed on the technologies and devices on display by more than 150 international companies from 20 countries around the world.
Experts participating in the exhibition stressed that Dubai Airports and UAE airports in general have proven to be proactive in adopting the latest solutions and modern technologies used in international airports in order to facilitate the passenger experience, noting that this exhibition constitutes a global platform to see the latest developments in airport technologies in all fields, in light of expectations that the exhibition platforms this year will witness the conclusion of many deals, especially in sustainable solutions.
Omar Bin Ghaleb, Deputy Director General of the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA), said that effective and sustainable air traffic management is key to unlocking the potential of the aviation industry, and industry stakeholders should embrace innovation and collaboration to create exceptional passenger experiences, leading the way towards a brighter future for airports and the environment.
Dubai Civil Aviation Authority is participating in the exhibition, which is an ideal platform to network with aviation professionals and key decision makers.
The authority will present its role and objectives to visitors to the exhibition to introduce them to the latest technologies and technological and innovative solutions that contribute to the growth and development of the aviation sector in Dubai.
On the sidelines of the exhibition, the Middle East Airport Security Conference, the Air Traffic Control Forum, the Global Airport Leaders Forum and the Women in Aviation Conference were opened, where the future of the travel industry, airport security, travel technologies, passenger experience and sustainability will be discussed, while the Sustainable Airport Plaza organized in collaboration with Dubai National Air Travel Agency is a key attraction.
These forums and discussions will contribute significantly to the growth of the industry and provide more opportunities to enhance performance and profitability.
David Schumer, Vice President of Civil Security for the Middle East and North Africa at SAP, said that airports in the UAE are keen to keep pace with the latest technological developments that contribute to increasing the smoothness of movement through airports.
He added that SAP signed with Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects the tender for the integrated package of air traffic control to secure about 95 air traffic control centers distributed between Dubai International Airport, Al Maktoum International Airport, the Emirates Pilot Training Academy and the Emergency Operations Center, pointing out that this system is present in some regional and international airports, but the one in Dubai is the largest and most advanced in the world.
He explained that the integrated SAP air traffic control package is an ideal solution based on products that support the automation of air traffic control systems, pointing out that the digital platform "I-ATS" provides control units within the towers through a comprehensive set of tools to manage air traffic safely and efficiently, as these solutions are applied at Dubai International Airport and Al Maktoum International Airport, which facilitates the chronology of aircraft.
Mai Ismail, exhibition manager at RX Global, the organizer of the exhibition, said that the focus of the current edition of the exhibition is mainly in the areas of reducing energy consumption, enhancing operational efficiencies, and improving passenger services and air service levels.
Ketan Sethi, Director of Aviation at NAFFCO, said that the exhibition attracts new technology, manufacturers and suppliers from all over the world under one roof, noting that at the exhibition we are working to showcase our products by launching air traffic management automation solutions and air traffic control products, in addition to our current product range that includes runway maintenance vehicles, passenger transport solutions and baggage handling solutions.
Exhibitors from the United States, Italy, France, Germany, Denmark, Turkey, the Netherlands, China, Belgium, Korea, Sweden and many other countries including the UAE will showcase the latest innovative products and technologies to make the aviation industry safe and sustainable, and to enhance efficiency and passenger experience in light of the expected increase in passenger numbers and the growth of the aviation industry.
Saud Abdulaziz Kankzar, Executive Director of the Air Transport and International Affairs Sector at the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, confirmed that the total number of aircraft movements at Dubai International Airport and Al Maktoum International Airport in the first quarter of this year reached more than 112,000 movements.
He said in remarks on the sidelines of the authority's participation in the activities of the Dubai Airport Show, that the total cargo traffic at Dubai International Airport and Al Maktoum International Airport in the first quarter of this year amounted to more than 510,000 tons, which reflects the gradual return of air traffic activity in Dubai.
He added that GACA continues to work to provide more elements of excellence that qualify airports to face future challenges, and continuously seeks to improve the services provided within international standards.
